A 51-year-old man will appear in court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder after a four-year-old boy was found stabbed in a street.
Steve Frogg, of Frederick Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, will appear before magistrates in the town.
The boy, who was found seriously injured in Mansfield on Monday afternoon, is conscious and in a stable condition at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire Police said.
The boy, named locally as Toby, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre after he was found with serious injuries in Frederick Street, Mansfield, at about 1.30pm on Monday.
He was reportedly left at a neighbour’s house by his father David Blythe, 44, while he went shopping.
A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said the youngster’s family was receiving specialist support.
Blythe described Toby as a friendly little boy, telling the Mansfield Chad newspaper: “He is a bright lad, sprightly and everybody knows him.”
