Agreement between IFEMA and FISA, S.A. for the organization of SICUR Latin America

Madrid, June 12th 2012. - IFEMA and FISA, S.A., the main fair operator in Chile, have reached a co-operation agreement for the organization of the first edition of SICUR Latin America, the International Security Safety & Fire Exhibition, which will take place in Santiago de Chile between April 3rd and April 5th, 2013.
The objective of this agreement is to create a large reference frame that will tackle the safety & security sector in Latin America from an integral perspective, in contrast to other more specialized events. In order to do this, based on the structure and contents of SICUR Spain, SICUR Latin America will include all the sub-sectors related to safety & security in the workplace, in the general population, and in the event of natural disasters.
SICUR Latin America was created as a connection bridge between Europe and Chile that was to offer large participation and an attractive professional platform to all other Latin-American countries. The project, supported by two leading entities in the organization of corporate events – FISA and IFEMA – focuses on favouring commercial synergies among the companies and professionals of both continents, and on creating new business and expansion opportunities within the international safety & security sector.
FISA S.A. is the main organizer of national and international fairs and congresses in Chile, where it leads the fair market and organizes 80% of the exhibitions. It also has the permanent support of the government and of the private sector. It is also well-known for creating spaces for the development of the most important industries contributing to national economic growth. It has a wide contact network which includes embassies and international representatives from over twelve countries, as well as strategic alliances with global and prestigious fair organizers such as: Messe Düsseldorf (Germany), Congrés et Expositions de Bordeaux (France), China Non Ferrous Metal Industry Association (China) and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (China).
After over half a century, it is recognized as the leading Chilean company in the production and marketing of its own fairs, as well as of those of third parties.
Every year, its exhibitions take up 100,000 square metres and it receives nearly 200,000 visitors and 5,000 exhibitor companies from all over the world. Its experience has allowed it to develop activities programmes in parallel to the fairs, which constitute recognized added value. These programmes can include the organization of Congresses, Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Business Round Tables, Talks, and Technical Demonstrations. One of its flagship exhibitions is EXPOMIN, the Centre of the World Mining Industry, which also hosts the Latin-American Mining World Exhibition and Congress.
For IFEMA, the organization of SICUR Latin America represents a new step forward in its internationalization strategy, which has materialized over the course of the last months in the development of important alliances with distinguished fair organizers in Asia and Latin America. Some of these alliances are: the agreement signed with COEX, the leading fair operator in South Korea, which makes IFEMA the designated commercial delegate for the Iberian Peninsula; the agreement reached with Shanghai CHC Exhibition for the organization of MATELECEIBT CHINESE next year; and the co-operation agreement established between the Latin-American fair EXPOUNIVERSIDAD, which is held in Buenos Aires, Bogotá and Caracas, and the Madrid FORO DE POSTGRADO. Besides, after over three decades of activity, about 1,500 fairs and 80 million visitors, IFEMA has become the main fair organizer in Spain and a leader in the European market.
The SICUR Latin America project is also reinforced by Chile’s potential as a host country. It has a competitive economy open to external trade, and it has had a bilateral agreement to avoid taxation in place since 2004; free trade treaties with 56 countries; and an EU-Chile Association agreement in force since 2003. Chile is also an important host for foreign investments and, according to Economist Intelligence Unit (2010), the best Latin-American country for business. Other arguments in favour of holding SICUR Latin America in Chile are the significant growth in the private safety & security sector in this country, and the series of proposals for the drafting of new Regulations regarding safety & security.
