A pedestrian has died and an officer who was on duty had to be airlifted to hospital following a road traffic collision in east London, it has been confirmed.
According to reports, the City of London Police motorcyclist had to be airlifted from a scene of the incident on the A12 around 10:30am on June 26.
The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The London Air Ambulance took the officer to Royal London Hospital for treatment for serious chest and arm injuries.
The collision took place in Metropolitan Police territory. The force closed the roads to investigate the collision.
As this story went live, there was no update on the officer’s condition. A City of London Police spokeswoman said he was one of a group of officers escorting taxis that were taking underprivileged children on a charity day out to Southend.
A Met spokesman said he could not confirm any details of the collision except to say the force was investigating.
