A teenage girl goes on trial at the Old Bailey today for killing a 16-year-old who died after she was stabbed in the head with a steel Afro comb.
The defendant, who is also 16 and cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murdering Julie Sheriff, who died on September 21 last year.
Julie suffered a brain injury after being attacked in Falcon Road, Battersea, south London, on May 7 last year and remained in a coma.
She had been visiting friends in the area and lived with her family in Hackney, east London.
They moved to Britain in 2006 from Sierra Leone, West Africa, where Julie’s father Raouf was a policeman, to find a better life.
