Woman accused of choking 5-month-old son
YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) -
A suburban New York woman suffering from postpartum depression is accused of choking her 5-month-old son.
Yonkers police say 40-year-old Carol Harnist has been charged with second-degree attempted murder. The infant is reported to be in good condition. Detective Lt. Joseph Monaco told the Journal News on Tuesday that police responded to the woman’s home on an “aided call” for an infant on May 17.
He said detectives determined that there were marks on the child’s neck “that were indicative of choking.” Monaco said Harnist was suffering from severe postpartum depression.
Harnist, a registered nurse at a New York City Hospital, was arrested on May 22.
Information about her attorney wasn’t immediately available.
